New York: Bits ‘n Pieces

Mueum of Modern Art, Mahattan

What other things must you see?
Here’s another personal list of neighborhoods or attractions in New York City you should not miss:

Hell’s Kitchen (on the map)
This former poor and working class neighborhood has undergone a real facelift during the last decades and its rent prices are now way above the average Manhattan prices.
This neighborhood is also starring in films and is the childhood home of Marvel Comics Daredevil. So just go and have a look for the fun of it. You’ll find Hell’s Kitchen as well under Clinton or Midtown West.

Ground Zero (on the map)
Although lower Manhattan and the financial district are a more “greyish” and less touristy area, go to the 911 Memorial (South & North pools) the monuments and atmosphere will easily give you the chills and you’ll have the opportunity to commemorate the victims. Next to the memorial, you’ll be able to admire the new pride of New York, the brand new freedom tower.
Continue downtown and either visit the statue of liberty or treat you to a helicopter tour overviewing the big apple.

MOMA (on the map)
Do not leave New York without a pit stop at the Museum of Modern Art! The building has a fabulous architecture, super interesting exhibitions and an impossible to miss outside patio where they serve the best cookies ever!
Little note to yourself before the visit: Do take your time and do not visit the MOMA after walking for miles… your feet will thank you for it!

Grand Central Terminal (on the map)
Visit also the Grand Central Terminal and its market !

Boathouse Observatory (on the map)
Eat a lazy summer lunch at the Boathouse Observatory in Central Park

Gentlemen’s Farmer (on the map)
Go have a delicious dinner date at Gentlemen’s Farmer, an intimate restaurant on Manhattan’s lower east side.  The chef is a very nice French guy, who will happily have a chat with you at the end of his service.
Appetizer: Try the Tuna tartar with sugar peas, sesame seeds, and gazpacho or the Bison Tartar with Béarnaise mousse, capers and quail eggs.
Main: I highly recommend the Rack of Lamb with chanterelle mushrooms and broccoli tips or the Ostrich Steak with peppercorns, prosciutto-wrapped green beans and a rosemary gratin.
Desert: I really had the most fantastic Crème brûlée of my life!

Sel Rose (on the map)
And last but not least, have a cocktail or two at Sel Rose, an Oyster Bar specialized in craft cocktails ! May cocktail recommendations: “The fountain” and the “Lavender piscine”.

Have fun and make the most of your trip to New York !
