Wine Trail of Châteauneuf-du-Pape (on the map)

Wine lovers and collectors, here’s something for you! This path through the vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape invites you to discover the diversity of local vine produce, its specific grape varieties, the characteristics of the vineyards and wine-producing methods.

Stay safe and sound

Walk from the “Maison des vignerons” on the various trail stretches (2.8 – 3.4 – 4.8 or 7 km) through the vineyard, which are very meticulously marked with fifteen explanatory panels.
But if you are still worried that your sense of orientation might be failing you, then download this very neat and handy mobile app: Visorando
It will give you a detailed description of the trail and in case of need you can follow your walking progress with the GPS tracking. So honestly, with me being the queen of disorientation I guarantee you that you will come to no harm!

Although I mentioned earlier that this trail is something for wine lovers, I have to say: forget about that! This is just a perfect walk for everyone. It is an easy walk with no significant vertical drop (+/- 62m). The only issue that you might experience is walking steadily on the section strewn with pebbles and limestone.

When should you do the trail?

Since I am just discovering the region I can’t inform you about the perfect time to go on this walk, but do not forget that it’s quite a touristy region during the summer months and that the heat could turn out to be more a burden than benefit.

I guess that the best moment will be during spring or autumn. Personally, I did the trail on a Sunday at the beginning of November and the landscape with its shaded autumn colours was just amazing … and there was literally no one else in sight!

Why should you do the Wine Trail again?

  • It is free of charge
  • It is an easy walk
  • It is almost impossible to get lost
  • Landscapes are phenomenal
  • No special walking gear needed
  • You learn a lot about the grapes and the vinification methods
  • After the walk you can discover the vine grapes during a wine tasting session in one of the many wine cellars of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Come on, try it! Cheers
